It can be hard to keep up with the forever changing renewable energy rebates from the Federal and State Governments. On the Geographe Green website, we'll always keep you informed with the latest news and updates so that you can make the best decision about your solar panels.
Solar Credits
Solar Credits is the name given to the new incentive scheme offered by the Federal Government. It is not means-tested and is not a rebate per se, but offers installers of renewable energy, including solar panel systems, an increased rate for the sale of their Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). In the south-west of WA, installers of solar systems will receive three times the nominal value of RECs from the Federal Government as a financial contribution to the system. The value of RECs does vary, sometimes on a daily basis, and so the payment is not a set amount.

WA State Government Net Feed-In Tariff (now suspended)
The net feed-in tariff scheme was a subsidy designed to encourage the installation of residential renewable energy systems. The subsidy (called the net feed-in tariff rate) was paid per unit of net electricity exported to the electricity grid from eligible systems. The net feed-in tariff rate was applied whenever electricity generation exceeds household consumption during the day and not just the balance at the end of a household's billing cycle. It was applied on the net electricity exported.
The scheme rewarded system owners for the electricity they export to the grid, thereby promoting increased energy efficiency in the home. The net feed-in tariff rate was 40 c/kWh for electricity exported to the grid, but has now been suspended by the State Government. It is not yet known whether this will be re-introduced.
